Uninhabited for over 30 years, the island
was revived when the new owner, Sir Robert Smith, introduced a fold
of pedigree Highland cattle in 1999. This Highland
cattle fold, numbered 180 in January 2005 with 60 heifers due to
calf in the spring of 2005. Beef was first supplied to award winning
butchers at the end of 2004. The cattle are all grass fed and their
diet is supplemented by silage, hay, oats and turnips grown on the
island.
